Who We Are

Down to Earth Design LLC was founded by Kimberly Roberts in 2003. After many years at a publications company and another extended stint at a local advertising agency, Kim ventured out on her own. It was her intent to start a freelance business that would provide compelling and thoughtful design services to small and large businesses, non-profits, government agencies and associations.

Kim has a deep interest in the outdoors and environment. Through the years, she has enjoyed volunteering with her local conservation organizations. In 2006, she won the local Spirit of the Monocacy Award for her dedication to the conservation of a river in Maryland, the Monocacy. Additionally, she was awarded a Governor’s Volunteer Service Certificate from the State of Maryland.

As time went on, Kim made contacts in the community. Before long she found herself designing for the very organizations with which she shared environmental concerns. Word got out and she expanded her client base to many like-minded organizations in her area.

Today, Down to Earth Design LLC, has defined itself by a focus on sustainable design for non-profits, “green” industry, and businesses with an environmental conscience. To further and deepen her commitment to embracing sustainable design practices, Kim is currently enrolled in the Sustainable Design program at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. This program covers all aspects of sustainable design-theory, tools and techniques. She expects to complete her certificate requirements in 2010.

As dictated by the project, Kim employs designers, vendors, and experts who are environmentally thoughtful.
